Volunteer Services in Nepal
Volunteer and internship in Nepal
If somebody interested to work as a volunteer in any sector or want to do internship in any field, please we invite you in Nepal and we provide you the opportunities as your requirement. Every day you will get to eat traditional Nepali meals such as daal bhat, and live and interact with a Nepali family. We have even provided an opportunity for you to experience life in one of the small Nepali villages in the Kathmandu Valley or out of Kathmandu.
You can do volunteer and internship program in different fields as your requirement or interest. The main fields are:
- Education : - Child education - Health - Environment
- Adult education - Cultural and religious - Food and nutrition
- Women education - Tourism - Agriculture
- Construction : building and road
You could be teaching community members, kids in childrens homes and/or in a classroom. Teaching / Education volunteers must commit to a minimum 6 week program, although the longer you are able to give the greater the impact you will have and the more your students will benefit. For placements outside of the Kathmandu Valley, priority will be given to those with the longest placement commitment.
Do you like to make and create things? Are you handy with a hammer or skilled with a saw or just keen to help a community? This is an opportunity to help in a wide range of practical village-based projects. The projects volunteers work on are usually for unskilled labour, unless volunteers come with specific skill sets. It can be a whole load of humping, dumping and digging! All work is completed Nepali style - which means by hand! - with basic Nepali tools.
Projects are usually decided upon in consultation with local communities, but you can use your initiative to suggest projects of your own. Projects are usually partly funded by the communities and partly by our partner organisation and/or volunteer contributions. It is essential that you are sensitive to the needs and wishes of the local community.
Are you passionate about womens rights and equal opportunity education? This program is an opportunity to assist local community schools with free classes for women who have not had the chance to partake in education. Volunteers will help in teaching English, numeracy, and sharing any skills they may have. By volunteering in this program, you have the chance to support these women as they strive to better their skills - either for personal achievement and help their children with their homework, or to help with job opportunities and set up small scale income generating activities. At the request of the women in these classes, volunteers must be female and 24 years or older.
Are you fascinated by Nepali culture? Do you want to find out more? Our cultural exchange programme is for those who do not want to be tied to any single program, but want to experience Nepal in a deeper and more meaningful way than just coming for a holiday. It will be up to you to get whatever it is you want from your exchange. Each and every person who signs up for this program does so for very different reasons, and that is why we let you explore in the way that best suits you.
As a cultural exchange volunteer you will live with a Nepali family, living as they do to the beat of Nepali time. You will have the opportunity to explore and get to know the community you are living with, engage with them in their day to day lives, help out in the house and fields, celebrate their festivals and get a first hand understanding of life here in Nepal.
Given that this is a cultural exchange, you will also be expected to share a little of your culture and customs, enabling both sides to see how different lives can be lived in a non judgmental way and that each should be cherished for what they give, as they are just two different lifestyles in a world of differences, no one better than the other. You will also be able should you wish, to get involved in our other programs, as long as your presence does not impact on incumbent volunteers.
Home stay programs can be arranged for two or four weeks only, with the most culturally rich time for this program is during the months of September – November when Nepals two greatest festivals are celebrated, Dashain and Tihar.
Our vision is to connect people with communities in need, with a particular focus on vulnerable women and children. We do this by supporting the work of local community organizations in countries through the placement of internationalvolunteers.
We attend to the welfare of children in Nepal who are orphaned, abandoned, or not supported by their parents. Papas House provides for the childrens basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing, as well as schooling and health care, and dministers to their emotional needs with love and compassion. Papas House allows children to grow up in a nurturing environment. We are not just to rescue children from abject poverty, but to enable the children to develop and realize their potentials.
Teaching English in Nepal
Our teaching English program you will be placed in a local school to teach children to speak, read and write English and you take classes for 2-3 hrs daily from Sunday to Friday. Even if you have never formally taught a classroom subject, you can teach conversational English skills. All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to help youth students.
Wherever you choose to serve as a english teacher, you are sure to make memories that will last a lifetime. When it is time to return home, you will be proud to hear your young English students say “Goodbye.”
Healthcare volunteer in Nepal
Medical volunteering overseas is a good way to travel around the world while giving back. The Medical Volunteer Program places doctors, nurses, and medical school students in hospitals and health clinics in Nepal. You work in either a urban or rural setting, providing primary care to locals who come in for treatment in your specialty. Your project will consist of making daily rounds with English-speaking Nepali doctors or health assistant, during which they will explain the diagnoses and treatments that patients are receiving. As a pre-med student or someone with an interest in public health, this is a great opportunity to learn about international healthcare.
Particularly in rural areas, where much of the local people live, there is a desperate, chronic shortage of medical personnel and supplies.
